Can adhesive coating be installed on a kitchen worktop?
Focus on the adhesive coating's resistance to moisture and heat.
It's a question we're asked almost every day: "Can I put adhesive coating on my worktop? Will it withstand the heat?"
The answer is YES, you can renovate a worktop with our products; but NO, they're not foolproof.
Discover our tips for renovating a worktop with adhesive coating, and keeping it in perfect condition for years to come.
What is the adhesive coating made of?
Our adhesive coatings are made of PVC with a thickness of between 200 and 350µ to ensure a thick, resistant product. Most of our vinyls have an M1 fire rating, as well as a high-performance honeycomb adhesive for easy evacuation of air bubbles and long-lasting durability.
PVC adhesive coating is also moisture-resistant. You won't have any problems with peeling or premature wear if you spill a glass on it, or if you apply it in a damp room (bathroom, for example). So cleaning is no problem at all 😉
We invite you to read the technical data sheet on each product sheet to find out the technical information and classifications of the vinyl you're interested in.
Did you know? 💡
M1 certification is a classification of materials' reaction to fire. This classification ranges from M0 to M4. An M1-certified material means that, in the event of fire, it will burn but will not ignite or cause smoke. M1 fire certification is often required for shops and other establishments open to the public.
How to renovate a worktop with adhesive coating?
First, get the right equipment to work properly. We offer an installation kit including a professional cutter, isopropyl alcohol degreaser and a felt scraper. Make sure you have a clean cloth nearby, as well as a primer if you want to increase the adhesive's hold.
Let's move on to the installation:
- Clean and degrease the surface thoroughly. This step allows the adhesive to bond properly to the surface.
- Position the adhesive coating on the worktop as you want it to be at the end.
- Start on one side: peel off about ten centimetres of protective liner, and press from inside to outside.
- Remove the liner a little at a time, always working from the inside outwards to remove any bubbles.
- When you come to obstacles (washbasin, electrical socket...) go over them and cut roughly at their level. You can come and finish the cuts more precisely later.
- Once you've removed all the protective liner, make sure all air bubbles are evacuated by pressing firmly outwards.
- Change the cutter blade and cut the edges of the adhesive coating flush with the surface (sinks, sockets, taps, etc.).

How can I keep my worktop looking like new?
By choosing Luminis Films adhesive coverings for your worktop renovation, you're opting for resistance and quality. As we said earlier, these coverings are made of PVC and are therefore sensitive to high temperatures: if you place a dish coming out of the oven right on the vinyl, it's likely to "melt" and warp.
Here are 3 simple and effective tips to keep your surface in perfect condition:
- Place hot pots and pans on a trivet
- Cutting food on a cutting board
- Clean the surface with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive product.
These are simple actions, carried out by most of us on a daily basis; but they will allow you to enjoy your new worktop much longer! 🙌
